KUALA LUMPUR: Inland Revenue Board service counters will be operational today and on Sunday to facilitate the payment of taxes under its special programme for late voluntary settlements.

In a statement issued today, the IRB said this will involve 36 branches, 44 revenue service centres and 12 urban transformation centres.

However, payment counters in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu will not be open.

Stamp duty counters will also be open during the same period for payments to be made by individuals concerned, and not their agents or representatives in reference to documents which were signed more than six months ago.

The IRB explained that the special programme was also meant to assist payments by those with overseas bank accounts, and who had not declared their incomes - the first phase of the programme ended on June 30, while this second phase will involve a 15 per cent penalty (based on the respective tax due) imposed on all late payments.

Enquiries can also be made through its care line at 1-800-5436 and 603-8911-1100 (overseas callers), which will be operational during the same period.

In a separate statement, the IRB announced that it had signed an agreement with the National Archives of Malaysia to facilitate the systematic disposal of records in accordance with the National Archives Act 2003, while helping to keep existing space free and reduce storage costs - this agreement seeks to improve on a similar effort launched in 2011. - Bernama
