KUALA LUMPUR: The International Special Education Exhibition (ISEE) 2019 is a platform to promote the approach of inclusive education for all children, particularly those with special needs.

Minister of Education, Dr Maszlee Malik (pix) said this was in line with the government’s commitment to have inclusive and support learning in all schools and institutions of higher learning for individuals’ needs.

“This, in a way, is to make schools educationally more effective in order to achieve the ‘Education for All’ status.

“Although we are implementing proactive initiatives for children with special needs to meet the objectives of the Malaysian Education Blueprint, we still need to examine pedagogical innovations and new learning technologies that can help these children’s individual needs,” he said at the opening address of the ISEE 2019, here, today.

The text of Maszlee’s speech was read by the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas.

Meanwhile, Mohd Gazali said this first such exhibition in Malaysia had attracted many special education experts from around the world including Japan, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

“The government is supportive of this effort and we are happy with the involvement of non-governmental organisations to fulfil our agenda of championing the needs of special children and special groups,“ he told reporters.

Meanwhile, ISEE 2019 organising chairman, Datin Lorela Chia said the exhibition was to focus on the empowerment of students with special needs.

“The ISEE covers increasing the enrolment of special needs children in education, and raising the quality of special needs graduates and the number of industry-ready and interested graduates. Our aspirations by year 2025 is to have an enrolment of 100,000 and the creation of 20,000 sustainable careers for them,“ she said.

The ISEE 2019 is jointly organised by the National Association of Special Education (PPKK) and National Association of Special Education, Kuala Lumpur (PPKKL) with Universiti Malaya and Jobs Malaysia, and supported by the Ministry of Education.

The four-day exhibition from today until Sept 1, features 84 booths, five international speakers, six interactive forums and more than 50 activities. — Bernama
