Kemas re-screens its programme participants to monitor progress

KUCHING: The government is in the process of re-screening budding entrepreneurs who attended courses organised by the Community Development Department (Kemas) and who had received assistance through the department.

Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun (pix) said this was to determine the current status of the participants as well as to enable the government to provide any further assistance.

“We want them to fully utilise the equipment kits provided to them after having completed their courses, otherwise it would be a waste of the government to have spent money to run this programme every year to help increase the income of the rural population.

“So since I took over, I have wanted to improve the programme as previously there was no monitoring done. We want to see and increase the KPIs, we want the participants to be successful as entrepreneurs, not just as recipients,“ she told reporters after completing the ‘‘Quick Win’’ Tool Kit handover ceremony here.

At the event, 29 participants completed the “Quick Win” course, a programme under Kemas where equipment such as ovens, maternity sets and sewing machines were provided to participants to help start their business.

The ‘’Quick Win’’ course is a short-term skills course aimed at low-income communities (B40) comprising youth (male and female), single mothers and those with physical disability. — Bernama
