PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) expects a higher than usual daily passenger traffic of about 160,000 people during this holiday period. Airline passengers travelling out from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Klia2 terminals are advised to check-in online earlier and be at the airport four hours before departure considering the upcoming holidays over the next two weekends.

MAHB has taken precautionary measures to ensure a smooth and seamless journey. Its 1,000-strong volunteer staff in place during the network failure will remain in full force throughout this super peak travel period.

“Teams manning the various facilities at both terminals have been put on high alert to ensure traffic management, vehicle parking spaces, washroom cleanliness and Aerotrain operations (among others) are run smoothly during this period,” MAHB said in a travel advisory statement yesterday.

Passengers should take note of the daily airspace closure at KLIA, between 9am to 10.30am from Aug 27 to 31, in view of National Day rehearsals for Merdeka. About 85 flights are expected to be affected, as such, passengers are advised to check with their airlines on the latest flight schedules.

Drivers heading to the airport must adhere strictly to the two-minute pick-up and drop-off time limit when picking or dropping off passengers at the the kerbside to avoid traffic congestion. Airport authorities and police personnel will be monitoring the flow of traffic and advise against parking at unauthorised areas. Park at the Long Term Car Park (LTCP) which has 5,000 parking bays and offers 30-minutes of free parking otherwise.

Passengers requiring assistance may look out for roving Airport CARE Ambassadors and any other airport staff, easily identifiable in their neon yellow vests or ‘Ask Me’ sash.

Additional advice to travellers:

>> Use public transport in getting to the airport (it takes about 30 minutes via KLIA Express from Kuala Lumpur).

>> Utilise available automated processes whenever possible, such as web check-in and self baggage drop.

>> Travellers passing through the KLIA Main Terminal can take advantage of the shuttle service instead of the Aerotrains as an alternative. It is also fast, convenient and scenic. Additionally, MAHB buses will run continuously 24/7 between the contact pier and satellite building.

>> If washrooms are fully occupied or being cleaned, lookout for signage on the nearest available washrooms. There are a total of 238 toilets and 55 prayer rooms (surau) at both terminals for the convenience of passengers.
