KUALA LUMPUR: A senior officer of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) told the High Court here today he did not probe a claim by Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) on his meeting with the Saudi Arabian King because it was not related to the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
MACC senior assistant commissioner (Special Operations Division) Rosli Husain, 54, said he knew about the meeting when recording Najib’s statements on the SRC case he was investigating.
The 57th prosecution witness said this when cross-examined by Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, on the 57th day of Najib’s trial on alleged misappropriation of RM42 million belonging to SRC.
Rosli told the court that he also did not investigate Najib’s claim of receiving donations from the Saudi Arabian royal family’s relatives through his personal accounts.
Muhammad Shafee: Based on the knowledge of the accused and the sources of funds that were channeled into his personal account, one of the statements in his defence said it was the source of the donations.
Rosli: That is what he (Najib) claimed.
Muhammad Shafee: Don’t you need to probe further?
Rosli: The investigation was only on the money that was transferred into his (Najib) accounts and my investigation showed that the money was used up in June 2014 ... therefore, I did not investigate further.
Najib, 66, is facing three counts of criminal breach of trust, one count of abusing his position and three counts of money laundering involving SRC funds amounting to RM42 million.
