Man admits to falsifying PDRM report to avoid NRD fine

LUMUT: A deliveryman faces a six-month jail sentence for making a false police report to avoid being fined for losing his identity card.

Manjung district deputy police chief DCP Chong Boo Khim said the 18-year-old man lodged a police report claiming that he was a victim of a snatch thief while on his way home from a restaurant, at about 12.15 am early this morning.

Chong said the man from Sitiawan claimed that he had lost some personal documents including his identity card and some cash.

“The police conducted an in-depth investigation into this case and found that there were some discrepancies in this case.

“Finally, the complainant admitted that he had lodged a police report with a false story to avoid being fined (by the National Registration Department) for losing his identity card,“ he said in a statement here today.

Chong said the man was now being reinvestigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false report at the police station. He said the man could be jailed for up to six months or fined up to RM2,000 or both if convicted. - Bernama
