BUTTERWORTH: A Myanmar man believed to be a drug pusher was detained at a roadblock during the Op Covid-19 operation at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) here yesterday.

Seberang Perai Tengah district acting police chief Supt Mohd Mustafa Bidin said the 40-year-old man was detained at 1.30pm for going outside without reasonable excuse and acting in a suspicious manner.

“Inspection of the Naza Citra vehicle driven by the suspect found 450 g of heroin and 50.7g of syabu worth RM11,605,” he said here today.

Mohd Mustafa said following the arrest, the police raided a house and detained two Myanmar men and a woman, aged between 38 and 48 believed to be members of a drug trafficking syndicate.

He said in the raid police also seized 17.8g of ganja worth RM178.

Initial investigation found that the syndicate used the house to store and repack drugs before selling them to foreigners in the state, he added.

The three male suspects who were tested positive for drugs and the woman have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, Mohd Mustafa said police were in the midst of tracking down the suspects who broke into the Alma Village Community Management Council hall in Bukit Mertajam yesterday and carted away various basic necessities to distribute to residents there in conjunction with the Movement Control Order.

He said in the 1pm incident, of the staff had discovered that the side door of the hall was broken with items such as rice, cans of sardines, instant noodles, eggs, various biscuits estimated to be worth RM2,000 had gone missing. — Bernama
