KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here was told today that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) was linked to the SRC International Sdn Bhd case by a former chief executive officer of the company during the recording of his statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in 2015.
MACC senior assistant commissioner (Special Operations Division) Rosli Husain, 54, said the commission recorded Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil’s statement for the first time on Oct 17, 2015 and then in late October of the same year in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The 57th prosecution witness said this when questioned by Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, on the 57th day of the trial of the former prime minister, who is facing seven charges of misappropriation of RM42 million in SRC funds.
Muhammad Shafee: Did you or did you not conduct further investigations or take corroborative evidence to deny what Nik Faisal said?
Rosli: Corroborative evidence from whom?
Muhammad Shafee: From other people or documentation
Rosli: To investigate what?
Muhammad Shafee: For example, if he (Nik Faisal) said Datuk Seri Najib is not involved in this, let’s say he (Nik Faisal) said that.
Rosli: He (Nik Faisal) never said Najib was not involved.
Muhammad Shafee: I put it to you that Nik Faisal did not implicate Datuk Seri Najib in both his statements.
Rosli: Disagree
On questions about Najib’s signature, Rosli, who is the last prosecution witness, said MACC had taken samples of Najib’s signature more than 10 times.
When asked the reason for doing so, Rosli said it was just as a precaution, but there was no claim on the signature being forged or denial by Najib.
Najib, 66, is facing three counts of criminal breach of trust, one count of abusing his position and three counts of money laundering involving SRC funds amounting to RM42 million.
