Penang assemblymen to contribute 30% of pay to Covid-19 fund

GEORGE TOWN: All state assemblymen in Penang will contribute 30% of their salaries to the state Covid-19 Fund.

Penang backbencher chief Teh Lai Heng said the donation was in line with the state government’s efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

“All Penang assemblymen including from the opposition have agreed to contribute 30% of their salaries to the state Covid-19 Fund.

“This is the initiative of the assemblymen following the announcement by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and the state executive councillors that they had agreed to contribute one month each of their salaries to the fund,“ he said in a joint statement here today.

Teh said the assemblymen also thanked Chow for the RM30,000 allocation to each constituency under the state People’s Aid Package.

“We are also thankful for the distribution of face masks and other equipment for the community under our constituencies,“ he said. — Bernama
