GEORGE TOWN: PAS should help the health authorities track down attendees of the tabligh convention at Seri Petaling, who have yet to come forward for their Covid-19 screening.
Penang PKR vice-chairman Jason Ong Khan Lee (pix) said that the Islamist party should be able to help the authorities trace the remaining tabligh delegates and urge them to get tested for Covid-19 to curb the spread of the virus.
An estimated 500 have yet come forward and could be infected with the virus.
It is also believed that some of them are foreign delegates, Ong said in an interview.
“We need to underscore the importance of total public cooperation in helping to bring down the infection rate of the virus. It is a must if life is to return to normalcy,“ said Ong.
In another development, DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong said that it was better for the federal government to disburse cash aid of RM1,000 each for the next two months, to those who are adversely affected by the movement control order (MCO).
“Asking people to withdraw their EPF savings does not come off as assistance from the government.”
Liew said that the Pakatan Harapan coalition, who are now in the Opposition, thinks that EPF savings of private sector workers should be left untouched in the fight against the pandemic.
“The government needs to bear the estimated RM8.2 billion to assist the people aggrieved by the spread of Covid-19,” said Liew in a text message.
