GEORGE TOWN: Police have completed their investigations into the horrific road accident here that resulted in the death of a couple and serious injury to a motorcyclist along busy Jalan Thean Teik on Tuesday.

Northeast district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said the investigation papers have been handed over to the deputy public prosecutor’s office here for a decision.

The car had been travelling along Jalan Thean Teik and heading for Air Itam when the driver realised that he had taken a wrong turn.

He immediately tried to move in the right direction but ended up hitting three motorcycles and grazed the sides of two cars before coming to a halt some 200m away.

In the process, a motorcyclist and his pillion rider were killed and another motorcyclist was injured.

The investigation had taken a new turn when it was discovered that it was the first motorcyclist who had suddenly ridden into the path of the motorist.

The driver has since been released on police bail while the police await a decision from the prosecutor’s office.

Soffian urged road users to be extra careful when travelling on congested roads, particularly here as the roads are narrow.
