SHAH ALAM: A police officer with the rank of assistant superintendent was sentenced to three years’ jail and fined RM20,000, in default a year’s jail, for accepting a bribe of RM4,000 from a construction company owner last year.

Judge Datuk Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain handed down the sentence on Rantai Anak Giling (rpt: Rantai Anak Giling), 47, of the Gombak district police headquarters, after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing the case beyond reasonable doubts.

The prosecution was represented by prosecuting officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Michael Joimin.

However, Ahmad Zamzani allowed an application by counsel M. Athimulan, for a stay of the sentence and fine, pending an appeal and to maintain the RM8,000 bail imposed on Rantai.
