SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari expects the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple issue to be resolved within the next couple of weeks, given that all quarters show tolerance.
Amirudin said he has received positive feedback from the involved parties during closed-door meetings he had with them over the weekend.
“I’m estimating that in the next week or two, we will be able to come to a decision, if all quarters are willing to give and take,“ he told reporters at the Selangor legislative assembly, here today.
Last Thursday, Amirudin had said the state government was willing to be the mediator for discussions between the land developer — One City Development Sdn Bhd — and the two separate temple committees.
He had also given assurances that the temple at USJ 25, Subang Jaya, would not be demolished or relocated at least until January of next year, in view of a court proceeding that is set to take place on Jan 11 relating to an injunction to stop the demolition.
The temple has been the centre of attention since a group of thugs barged into the premises and started attacking devotees who were guarding the temple last Monday, leaving a fire and rescue personnel seriously injured.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said he would propose a name for the currently vacant position of state Islamic Affairs, Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation committee chairman to the Sultan of Selangor by month’s end.
The position went vacant when its executive councillor, Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, who was also the Seri Setia assemblyman, passed away on Aug 2 at the Putrajaya Hospital after a battle with cancer.
