GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 249 summonses during the Special Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2024 Ops conducted along Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway here yesterday.

The integrated operation which involved the Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department (JSPT) of the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK), Southwest District Police Headquarters and the Department of Environment (JAS) was conducted from 2 pm to 6 pm.

“JPJ issued 249 summonses, JSPT 48 summonses, while JAS issued 10 compound notices and among the offences committed were driving without a licence, expired Motor Vehicle License (LKM), no insurance coverage, failure to wear a seatbelt while driving, and vehicle modifications without permission,“ according to Penang JPJ Facebook page today.

Additionally, Penang JPJ also issued 175 summonses to drivers who failed to stop at red lights during the Special HRA Ops from April 1 to date, and they noted that this was the most common major offence during the operation.
