Task force to meet MPs on Oct 16 before finalising UEC report by month end

PUTRAJAYA: The Unified Examination Certificate Task force (PPDUEC) will meet members of Parliament (MPs) on Oct 16, before finalising its report later this month, said its chairman Eddin Khoo (pix).

The PPDUEC has held more than 70 discussions involving more than 500 individuals including representatives from various universities, members of the public administration and organisations, he said.

“Everyone here does not want the issue to be divisive to Malaysians. They want a unified perspective,“ he told the media at the Education Ministry here today.

UEC is a certificate issued by the Malaysian Chinese Secondary School System and its implementation is not in accordance with the national education system.

The Sabah government had recently announced that it had recognised UEC for admission to its public institutions of higher learning and the state civil service sector. Sarawak had recognised the qualification since 2015, while Melaka, Perak and Negeri Sembilan had supported the UEC.

The Education Ministry said in a statement earlier today that the PPDUEC was expected to submit the report by the end of this month (October).

Asked if the report could be made public, Khoo said he had no objection, but it was up to the government. — Bernama
