KOTA BARU: Food outlet, stall and restaurant operators in the state who comply with the state government’s recommendation to limit their operation to 12 midnight will be exempted from business license payment for one year.

State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman, Dr Izani Husin said the exemption was an incentive to the traders who complied with the recommendation in supporting the effort of the state government.

‘’This (closing premises at midnight) is not a new thing. in fact it is found in the condition for licence of the Local Authorities (PBT), namely, businesses exceeding 12 midnight must seek a licence (permission), namely, operating in excess of the stipulated period.

‘’If there are still traders who are keen to continue to open beyond the period suggested, they must seek a licence from the PBT in their respective areas,‘’ he told reporters after the State Executive Council Meeting at the Kompleks Kota Darulnaim, here today.

Izani said the PBT would monitor to determine those premises which were still conducting businesses beyond the stipulated period.

‘’This is not a drastic action as the traders will be given from one to two months starting early this year to limit their operations until midnight.

Izani was confident the tourism sector in the state would not be affected by the move.

Earlier, Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob was reported to have said that Kelantan would would limit the operating period of food outlets, stalls and restaurants until 12 midnight, from this year.

This was aimed at checking social ills following a report which identified outlets operating after 12 midnight as among the factors why youths were often not at home but out in the streets at night. — Bernama
