Tun Hanif Omar to file counter claim against suit by Lim Kit Siang

KUALA LUMPUR: Former inspector general of police (IGP) Tun Hanif Omar will file a counterclaim against a defamation suit by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang over a speech made by him (Hanif) at a convention last September.

Hanif’s lawyer, Datuk Shaharudin Ali, told the media this after the case was mentioned before High Court registrar Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor.

“The court had ordered us to file our defence statement and counterclaim before Dec 5,” he said.

Lim, who is the Iskandar Puteri MP has to file his reply to Hanif’s defence and counterclaim before Dec 19.

Shaharudin said they will file the counterclaim on defamation after going through all the related documents.

The case is set to be heard before High Court judge Datuk Azimah Omar on Dec 20.

Lim is taking Hanif to court over the latter’s allegation that DAP wanted Peninsular Malaysia to be split following the May 13, 1969 racial riots.

Hanif’s comments were reported in Sinar Harian’s article titled “Tun Hanif buat pendedahan DAP, PAS” on Sept 6, 2018.
