Unemployed man nabbed with stolen items worth over RM200k

IPOH: The police arrested a 22-year-old man at Pasir Puteh near here, after a woman suffered over RM200,000 in losses following a house break-in at Laluan Pasir Puteh, Medan Pasir Indah here, last week.

Ipoh district police chief ACP A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the unemployed man believed to have been involved in the burglary, was nabbed while driving a Honda Civic car at Jalan Pasir Mas at 12.30pm on Monday.

“On inspection of the car, police recovered 45 items including jewellery, car keys and mobile phones while 94 other items including two machetes, an axe and three metal blades were found at the suspect’s home at Taman Lapangan Ria,“ he told a press conference at Ipoh district police headquarters here today.

He said the suspect was detained after a woman lodged a report that her house was burglarised and she was robbed of jewellery worth RM140,000, a luxury brand watch worth RM58,000 and a RM5,000 designer handbag.

He said the suspect tested positive for cannabis was remanded for five days from Monday for investigation.

Meanwhile, A. Asmadi said police arrested two men, aged 31 years, for allegedly robbing several 24-hour convenience stores around Ipoh this month.

“On questioning the duo admitted their involvement in eight convenience store robberies which led to RM2,397 in losses,“ he said adding that another accomplice is still at large.

He said a 36-year-old provision store owner in Taman Permai was also arrested on suspicion of buying the stolen items, among them cigarettes.

The three suspects have been remanded for six days from yesterday, he said. — Bernama
