MALACCA: People with disabilities (OKU) should take advantage of the job search platform organised by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) through Penjana Kerjaya Carnival, to ensure they are not left of the workforce.
Mohd Amiruddin Kamaruddin, 36, from Felcra Ramuan China, Masjid Tanah said the carnival has given him the opportunity to return to work after being unemployed for almost five years due to several factors among them, the disappointing salary offers.
However Mohd Amiruddin who is wheelchair-bound said this had not stopped him from searching for an employer who could accept his situation and pay him a salary based on the workload.
“I am grateful that today, Econsave supermarket in Batu Berendam, offered me a job in the administrative division starting Aug 26 and I will give it my best.
“I thank the government and my employer for not neglecting the disabled and I hope those with disabilities would also take the opportunity to come for an interview at such carnivals,“ he told Bernama when met at the Penjana Kerjaya Melaka Careertrans 2020 Carnival here, last night.
The two-day carnival which ended yesterday at the Malacca International Trade Centre (MITC), aimed at reducing unemployment among those affected by Covid-19, was participated by 32 employers and 10 training providers registered under Socso.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Syukor Subtu, 21, from Kuala Sungai Baru, Alor Gajah said he was grateful to be immediately accepted as a machine operator at Allied Precision Technologies in Bukit Rambai.
“This carnival is a great place to shop for suitable jobs. It is convenient as we get to be interviewed and know the outcome right away,” he said while thanking Socso.
A former hotel employee, Nadhira Natasha Aminodin, 21, from Bukit Rambai who was laid off last March due to Covid-19 hoped she would be reemployed soon.
“I am not fussy and am willing to work with any company. Anyway this is not the time to be choosy about jobs as they are getting scarce and there are too many competitors,“ she said.
Meanwhile, Socso in a statement said, of the 7,934 vacancies available nationwide, so far, 4,686 have been filled by people with disabilities.
Over 200 job carnivals are expected to be organised until December, involving various agencies under the Human Resources Ministry, and to date, 581 programmes have been implemented nationwide. — Bernama
