MALACCA: Residents in Kampung Pantai Rombang, Tanjung Kling here today appealed to the state government to help resolve the severe water shortage in the area since last week.

Residents, in expressing their disappointment, claim that they have been experiencing continuous water disruptions for the past six days that had affected their daily routines.

Maziah Alipun, 51 said the disruption has caused chores such as cooking, cleaning, and washing clothes to be interrupted for several days.

The family had to buy mineral water daily to cook, bathe and to perform ablution.

“It is even difficult to wash clothes and I have to send it to a self-service laundry, which is also affected by the water shortage. Therefore, we appeal to the state government to solve the water supply problem as soon as possible,” she said when met here today.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Nabilah Atikah Ahmad said the disruption in her residential area has occurred over five times since the beginning of this year and residents there had to rely on supply from water tanker lorries over the last three days.

“This is not the first time this has happened, it occurred during the Aidilfitri, Aidiladha and Independence Day celebrations as well.

“We feel sorry for our sick mother because she needs to use water when we are at work. So, we are requesting the state government to resolve this issue immediately,” she said, adding the residents been patient for almost a week.

Last Saturday, Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari said low average rainfall had caused water levels in the state’s dams, reservoirs and Malacca River to drop and several areas to experience supply disruptions.

On Sept 12, Syarikat Air Malacca Berhad said 42 areas in the state were facing water supply shortage and 16 tankers from Johor, Selangor, and Perak were sent there to assist in the distribution of treated water in the state. — Bernama
