KUANTAN: Pahang police have denied a viral photo on social media claiming a man was fined for not wearing a face mask at a petrol station near here.
Pahang Police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said the individual was only given a warning by police personnel monitoring compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“Petrol stations have been gazetted as a public area, and members of the public have the right to go there. In this case, we only issued a warning, not a summons,” he told reporters at the Pahang police headquarters here, today.
The photo which went viral on Facebook yesterday, claimed a man had been issued with an RM1,000 compound by the police at a petrol station in Jalan Kuantan-Gambang for allegedly not wearing a mask.
Abdul Jalil said, however, the authorities would not compromise on enforcing the rule for compulsory use of face masks in crowded places which took effect on Aug 1.
He added that since Saturday, a total of 20 individuals and 28 business premises had been issued with compounds for various offences such as not wearing a face mask, not adhering to the physical distancing rule, not providing hand sanitisers and not providing check-in QR codes or recording visitors’ particulars upon entry. — Bernama
