KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today reiterated that the party would not simply accept any opposition lawmakers as members.

He said any individual who applied to join the party would be strictly scrutinised prior to approval.

“We want to make sure they have the ability, and prioritise the people in their political struggle.

“We examine (the candidate) and do not just simply recruit, or just accept. I conduct thorough checks and make the decision together with other Warisan leaders,“ he said during a press conference after receiving a membership form from Labuk state assemblyman and former Parti Bersatu Sabah member Abdul Rahman Kongkawang.

The addition of Abdul Rahman has taken the total number of Warisan lawmakers in the Sabah State Assembly to 32, including those elected.

On the performance of nine former opposition MPs who had previously joined Warisan, Mohd Shafie, who is also Sabah Chief Minister, said he was satisfied with their efforts in helping the people at the grassroots level.

He said the state government had provided the necessary assistance to ensure assemblymen could help out the people in their respective areas.

Commenting on Abdul Rahman’s participation in Warisan, Mohd Shafie said the party received former’s request with an open heart, adding that he joined without any preconditions. — Bernama
