7-Eleven had a joyous CNY celebration with senior citizens

7-ELEVEN Malaysia together with NGOHub Asia organised a Chinese New Year celebration as a special treat for senior citizens of Joy Garden Old Folks Home recently.

The event began with the tossing of the “Yee Sang” to welcome good fortune and a auspicious start to the new year, followed by a sumptuous lunch with delectable dishes such as braised noodles, curry fish and many more.

After the feast, volunteers from 7-Eleven and NGOHub spent quality time with the senior citizens by organising a fun session where everyone sang songs and had the opportunity to share their stories, where many of the senior citizens spoke of their past experiences and shared anecdotes from their younger days.

To complete the activity, the volunteers distributed red packets and goodie bags containing snacks and beverages.

“At 7-Eleven Malaysia, it always brings us great joy to offer festive cheer to those who do not have the privilege to spend it with their families or loved ones, as well as, those in need. We are pleased to celebrate the Year of the Rat with the residents from Joy Garden Old Folks Home. We hope that this celebration will be a memorable one for them as they start the new lunar year on an auspicious note,” said 7-Eleven Malaysia’s general manager of Marketing Ronan Lee.

Joy Garden is a non-profit charitable organisation under the House of Joy, which administers shelter and care to underprivileged people from various walks of life, including neglected elderly folks, the mentally ill and wheel-chair bound.

Established on Feb 1, 2008, by the late Reverend Tang Chee Sing and his wife Lee Ching Mun, the home cares for 43 senior citizens with the help of caretakers in Semenyih.
