One of the fastest ways to decorate a bare wall is to hang up pictures and artwork. While it’s easy just to put pictures into frames, hanging them up and arranging them beautifully is another question. For a more curated look, try some of these ideas to display your gorgeous pictures of you, your family and your travels.
Arrange in grids
Arranging photos in a grid is the easiest and most fail-safe method. Visualise imaginary lines on the wall and mark them using a pencil. With the areas marked out, the pictures can be hung neatly in a row across or downwards. The pictures can also be arranged to form a neat square or rectangle.
Lean it
If you’re not keen on using a hammer and nails, the pictures can just be leaned against the wall. The pictures can also be leaned against the shelf or the back of a chair for an art deco look.
Cluster
Sometimes grids and rigidity are not what you’re looking for. As such, the pictures can be arranged in a cluster with no fixed shape. This way of displaying is perfect for pictures along the stairs, or as a main centrepiece in the living room.
A row on shelves
Another no-hang way of displaying pictures is to arrange all of them in a row on shelves or racks. It’s easier to switch out and update pictures, and it also provides a more uniformed look on the wall. This is also a great way of displaying your children’s artwork. A lower rack enables children to arrange and put up their own works of art.
This method of hanging up pictures is pioneered by students living in dormitories. With simple pins or clips, pictures can be fastened onto a string or ribbon and hung up on the walls. Enterprising students have also managed to string up pictures using fairy lights!
Create a shape
Did you know you can create artwork out of your pictures? The collection of pictures can be arranged into several shapes such as a heart or a circle. Mark out the general shape and size you want on the wall with a pencil, before hanging up the pictures.
Make a clock
For those who like a little quirkiness in the house, using pictures of family members as numbers on the clock is a fun way to do it. All you need to do is to get a clock-making kit sold in art and craft stores. The pictures can be arranged in a circle with the clock piece right in the middle. Looking at the time will never be boring after this.
Draw the frames
Yes, you read that right. It’s something way out of the box than the usual which is exactly why you should give it a try. First, make a stencil of the designs of your frames out of cardboard or freezer sheets. Using a good marker, you can trace the photo frames in any design you like. Displaying your pictures and artworks without photo frames also keeps the home a little bit dust-free.
