IN THE past, Malaysia has had moments questioning whether particular foods are halal or not (with Cadbury chocolates and pretzel dogs being of point).

But one thing is for sure, dangerous drugs are non-halal. But apparently, the message wasn’t received by an Indonesian ustaz.

Reports say Ahmad Marzuki was recently arrested by Indonesian police for the consumption and sale of methamphetamine, while claiming that the substance is halal.

The man who may not have heard of caffeine, said that meth can spur a person to learn and recite the Quran, ultimately bringing them closer to God.

Ahmad said that while he understood meth is illegal under Indonesian law, it is however not explicitly forbidden in the Quran.

He was on the run for two months, during which he continued to teach at some Islamic boarding schools, and was finally apprehended when he returned home for a funeral.
