Animal Talking, a late night talk show on Twitch that entirely exists within the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, got a special guest star last Wednesday.

It was none other than singer Selena Gomez who appeared on the show with the show’s creator Gary Whitta.

Gomez debuted a stripped-down version of her newest track titled Past Life with Trevor Daniels in their respective character avatars.

Both of them stood behind in-game microphones which played into the guise of a real-life talkshow performance.

Gomez’s character dressed in a subdued outfit consisting of a blue hoodie and white pants.

“I wanted it to be simple,” she later said, because she felt that her clothes would go along with the acoustic version of the track.

“If I could just sing in my jeans and T-shirt for the rest of my life, I would,” she said during the show.

The simple getup was also in line with the show’s chillout vibes.

Celebrities don’t look at appearing on our show as a promotional chore but something genuinely fun and silly to do, particularly these days,” Whitta said in an email to Polygon.

According to Whitta, the track was pre-recorded but assured everyone that Gomez was indeed present for the performance. The singer hung out for a bit and shared that she picked up the game because “everyone” was talking about it and so do her friends.

Twitch chat was abuzz and Whitta said the stream broke viewership records with nearly a million live views. After all, Selena Gomez did share the link to the livestream on her Twitter where she has 61.8 million followers.

Gomez also revealed in the interview that one of her dream song team-ups would be with Taylor Swift.

“We both wanted to do that, it’s just, everything, everything, everything remains in our friendship,” she said. “It just feels like we’re family. I’ve known her for 13 years now, she’s been my best friend. We’ve talked about [making a song], for sure.”
