WHILE staying active is crucial, pushing yourself too hard can be dangerous.

Recently a Facebook user known as Shern, narrated how she learnt this the hard way after a spin class in January 2022.

After a long break from exercise, Shern signed up for a 45-minute spin class.

Only 15 minutes in, the pain became unbearable.

She finished at a slower pace, but by the end, her legs were too weak to stand. Assuming it was normal soreness, she continued with her day.

However, the pain worsened.

A few days later her urine turned dark brown. Alarmed, she researched her symptoms online and discovered rhabdomyolysis - a serious condition caused by muscle breakdown.

She sought immediate medical attention.

Shern spent a week in the hospital to monitor her liver function and manage the pain.

She emphasised the importance of hydration in flushing out toxins and preventing kidney damage.

Frequent urination and sleep deprivation made the experience even more challenging.

Shern’s story highlights the importance of listening to your body and starting slow, especially when returning to exercise.

“It’s not a joke. this popular exercise style isn’t for everyone, so work out gradually,” she concluded.
