IF the word warrior were to pop up on our minds, some of us may picture Mel Gibson on a horse screaming the well-known phrase “They may take our lives, but they’ll never take away our freedom!”
But in reality, these days we have less of those kind of warriors, and more ‘keyboard warriors’. And it is safe to say, sometimes keyboard warriors tend to enter into the wrong battles — like the one concerning a 7-year-old Iban girl who went viral for adorably singing and dancing on video in her school uniform.
The little viral superstar ended getting invited onto a TV show called meletup, where she confessed that her Bahasa Melayu isn’t something she mastered just yet. While many of us may just go “Awwwwwwwwwwww”, some folks took to YouTube to criticise her. In fact one Facebook user said, “Looks like Hang Tuah was wrong, Melayu akan hilang di dunia.”
Fortunately, many came to her defence as well, pointing out that the girl is Ibanese, and she speaks her mother tongue and English. Plus, considering she’s only 7-years-old, she would probably master Bahasa Melayu better than most of us.
