KOTA KINABALU: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Wanita wing is ready to place 6,000 members in the Kimanis parliamentary constituency to assist the election machinery to secure the victory for the candidate of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) in the upcoming by-election.

National PH Wanita information chief Senator Aiman Athirah Al-Jundi said the machinery was ready to assist campaigning activities to ensure victory for the candidate from Warisan.

“In total, about 6,000 members will be stationed in Kimanis, and about 300 members will be mobilised during the campaign period at any one time based on the areas in the parliamentary constituency.

“The machinery will also be mobilised under one logo (of the contesting party) in this by-election to avoid confusion among voters.

“This also reflects the unity (between PH and PH-friendly parties, namely, Warisan and the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko),” she told reporters after chairing the PH Wanita Information Machinery meeting here today.

In the meeting today Sabah PH Wanita chief Jannie Lasimbang was appointed as the PH Wanita machinery director for the Kimanis parliamentary by-election and the machinery will be launched on Jan 4.

Meanwhile, Jannie said the Kimanis parliamentary by-election was important in strengthening cooperation and to show that the PH, Warisan and UPKO in Sabah were united.

“We will go to the villages to meet the people, besides conducting a walkabout at the ‘tamu’ (daytime open-air markets) as they are the focal points of the local population,” she said.

On Dec 16, the Election Commission set the Kimanis parliamentary by-election to be held on Jan 18, while the nomination date is set for Jan 4, and early voting on Jan 14.

The Kimanis parliamentary seat was declared vacant after the Federal Court, on Dec 2, upheld the Election Court’s ruling, nullifying former foreign minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s victory in the 14th General Election in May last year. - Bernama
