Beware of man impersonating TNB contractor: PDRM

KAJANG: Police have warned of a thief preying on homes and offices under the guise of being a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) contractor.

The man, who is said to be aged between 30 and 40, has struck at four locations and police are making efforts to track him down.

The thief would introduce himself as a TNB contractor or a building contractor appointed by a developer to inspect a potential victim’s premises.

He would then order the occupants or staff to shut down the electricity and step out of the premises to ensure their safety while he is at “work”.

He would then search the place and pocket valuables and cash he finds. After he is done, he flees.

Kajang police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said yesterday the thief preyed only on certain premises whose occupants he could convince.

“He is of average size. We urge the public to contact us if they have any information on the man. We have received four police reports so far and the cases are being investigated for theft and impersonation.”

On Wednesday at about 2pm, staff of an office at Reko Sentral here fell victim to the man when he showed up and convinced them that he was a TNB contractor after showing them an “authorisation letter”.

The man spent about 45 minutes “inspecting” the premises before fleeing with cash and valuables belonging to the victims.

Those with information can call the Kajang district police headquarters at 03-8911 4222.
