NRD denies two individuals have same ID card number

PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) has denied an allegation that two individuals were found to have the same identity card number, as viraled on social media.

In a statement today, the NRD said the two individuals concerned had different identity card numbers in the NRD system.

According to NRD, Malaysian citizens would only be provided with a unique twelve-digit identity card number that was generated by the system using a specific formula.

“The NRD has never issued the same identity card number to different individuals,” it said.

The public was asked not to accept the false information or to disseminate them to avoid any confusion and legal action could be taken against anyone for spreading them, NRD said.

For information on NRD, members of the public are advised to go to any NRD office or visit NRD’s official website at url www.jpn.gov.my or contact the Corporate Communications Unit, NRD at 03-8880 7077/7067/7069/8206 or email pro@jpn.gov.my. - Bernama
