GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government is urging the public to strictly follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure the Ramadan bazaars can go on throughout the holy month.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow wants the public to remain vigilant at all times as the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has increased recently.

“We are grateful that Penang is allowed to hold Ramadan bazaars, but whether we will have them throughout the rest of Ramadan depends on our actions,” he said at the launch of the Sinar Ramadan Campaign 2021, an initiative by Penang Halal International (PHI).

PHI chief executive officer, Aida Lim Abdullah said the campaign aimed to help promote entrepreneurs and traders involved in the food and beverage (F&B) sector during Ramadan and Syawal.

“The campaign from April 13 to May 31, is also held in partnership with online platforms such as Shopee and Foodpanda, as well as Maybank Islamic to encourage users to make cashless transactions,” she said.

She added that six hotels, two hypermarkets and a restaurant were also supporting the campaign. - Bernama
