KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department has denied that there is a confirmed positive Covid-19 case in the state.
Its director Dr Chin Zin Hing said the message being spread on social media was not true.
“As of Feb 12 at noon, the State Health Department had received reports of 76 cases of PUI (patients under investigation) for Covid-19.
“Of these, no positive cases have been reported, 59 cases have been confirmed negative through laboratory tests, while another 17 are still pending,” he said in a statement, here today.
He urged the public to refer to statements issued either by the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Health Minister or Health director-general, to find out the current situation on Covid-19 in Malaysia and Sarawak.
He said those disseminating fake news face a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to a year or both upon conviction, and shall also liable to a further fine of RM1,000 for each day during which the offence is continued after conviction, as provided under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (AKM) 1998. - Bernama
