Work on Sibu Hospital car park likely to start end of the month

SIBU: The tender for the construction of a temporary car park at the Sibu Hospital has been issued and work on the project is expected to start as early as the end of this month.

Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling Chai Yew (pix) said the new car park will add 120 parking spaces to the more than 600 available now at the hospital.

The RM500,000 car park will be built behind the hospital canteen, and hopefully it can solve the parking problem there, he said at a press conference at the Sibu DAP headquarters here today.

Currently, 400 of the 600 parking spaces are allocated to staff of the hospital.

Ling also urged members of the public to donate towards a reverse osmosis (RO) system for the dialysis department of Sibu Hospital.

The system, which costs RM230,000, will help meet the needs of patients seeking treatment at the department.

“Those who wish to make the donation can contact the hospital’s management,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lanang Member of Parliament Alice Lau Kiong Yieng said Lanang and Sibu DAP will be providing a free Agro Nurani takaful protection plan for disabled people in the constituencies.

She said those aged seven to 75 years who are holders of the Welfare Department OKU card are eligible for the protection plan from Agro Bank.

However, those with mental disability and multiple disabilities are not eligible for the plan.

“Registration for the one-year protection plan is open from Sept 10 to 14. Relatives of the disabled persons can come to our service centres at Lorong Aman 2 (Lanang) and Rejang Park (Sibu).

“They should bring along a copy of their MyKad and copies of the applicant’s MyKad and OKU card. The applicants themselves need not come for the registration,” she said. — Bernama
